Susan Penny is one of Britain’s best-loved craft writers, editors, and designers, with a career spanning over three decades in the world of needlecraft and cross stitch. Originally an arts graduate, Susan’s passion for making things began as a child in her local haberdashery, where she fell in love with ribbons, beads, and buttons. This early enthusiasm led to over 50 published books, the launch and editorship of major UK craft magazines (including Needlecraft, Cross Stitcher, and Cross Stitch Collection), and a lifetime’s dedication to teaching and inspiring fellow makers.
Nearly 30 years ago, Susan and her husband Martin transformed a simple idea for a national stitching magazine into full-time creative careers. After years of publishing and raising their family, Susan’s love for making inspired her to start a blog in 2013, sharing personal craft stories and practical needlework tips. Her writing weaves together sentimental journeys—shopping for vintage buttons, designing Sindy doll clothes, and collecting haberdashery treasures.
